eSports becomes an official medal event at 2022 Asian Games

eSports has been approved as an official medal competition at the 2022 Asian Games, China, the Olympic Council of Asia announced.

The Olympic Council of Asia in a partnership with Alisports, the sports arm of Chinese e-commerce big daddy- Alibaba announced to bring down the Electronic Sports video game phenomenon to the official sports events of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

eSports, which has become an essential part of millions of youngsters in Asia and around the world, has already been listed to the OCA’s 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, September 2017 as a demonstration event.

Moreover, it will part of the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, again as a demonstration sport next year. And by the time of the 19th Asian Games in 2022, e-sports will be an official medal sport.

The move was made so as to reflect the rapid development and popularity of this new form of sports participation among the younglings.

Further, Alisports will work side by side with the OCA to promote the e-sports marketing. OCA President, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah {One guy}, said, “The Olympic Council of Asia has continuously been committed to the heritage, development, and improvement of Asian sports. We are immensely pleased about the strategic partnership with Alisports”.

He added that OCA will look forward to further collaborate with Alisports in areas of digital sports concepts along with sporting tournaments. OCA is certain that the extensive organizing capabilities of Alisports and their experience in e-sports industry will help the organization in reaching and developing all sports.

Alisports founder cum CEO Mr. Zhang Dazhong thanked the Olympic Council of Asia for their faith in them. He said that together they will work on giving the sponsors of the Asian Games with more opportunities, for maximizing the market value, so that the OCA gets the optimum benefits and advantages.

e-Sports to be played at the 5th AIMAG, September includes FIFA 2017 (confirmed), Multiplayer Online Battle Arena games like- League of Legends or Dota 2 and Real Time strategy games such as StarCraft II.
