NBA fines Boston Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas for $25,000 for using ‘profane language’ at a Wizards fan during Game 3 in Washington.

On Wednesday, NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Kiki Vandeweghe made the announcement in a press release about three hours before Game 5 in Boston.

The “Humble Player- heckling fan” episode took place during the Celtics’ 121-102 loss to the Washington Wizards in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference semifinals series on May 4 at Verizon Center, Washington.

The face-off was recorded by a fan, sitting by the Celtics’ bench and posted to an Instagram account.

It looks like that Thomas used profane language and told the fan to meet him behind the bench and said, “I will f**k you up, and you know that.”

According to ESPN, the person who captured the whole incident, the fan was heckling Thomas, who was on the bench at the time all through the game.

Speaking of the incident Boston coach Brad Stevens stated that obviously there’s a line that you can’t cross and ultimately, get fined for. That’s my reaction to it. I think that if he [Thomas] could take it back he would.

However, the slapped $25k had no effect on Thomas’s play in game 5, posting 18 points and nine assists as the Boston Celtics defeated the Washington Wizards 123-101 on Wednesday night, taking a 3-2 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

It seems that the Washington-born Thomas is fined for using language ‘not part of the oxford dictionary’ but used by every American when encountered with a “jerk”. Why? why can’t an individual or a celebrity use such words or behave “normal“?
