Former running back Marshawn Lynch is all set to make his return to NFL as the Seahawks and the Raiders have agreed to a trade that lets him play for Oakland.
The 31-year-old’s representatives and the Raiders have settled for a 1-yr deal, and the team has negotiated the details of a trade for Lynch’s rights with the Seahawks according to various NFL sources.
Lynch will undergo a physical at Raider’s training facility Wednesday. Based on which, the Raiders and Seahawks are expected to finalize the trade-off that would make Marshawn Lynch officially a member of the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday.
Further, the draft compensation is slated to be a swap of late-round picks in 2018. Seattle will be getting Oakland’s fifth-round pick in exchange for the Seahawks’ sixth-round pick.
The five-time Pro Bowl running back will take a physical with the Raiders after he returns to the Bay Area from his trip to Haiti, where Lynch and his former Seahawks teammates Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett have been taking a tour in the country to help build schools and houses.
Lynch was supposed to be back in the US on Tuesday but missed his flight.
Aa per the deal between the Raiders and Lynch, both parties have agreed to terms on a contract for the 2017 season. After weeks of dialogue, Oakland concurred to pay Lynch a $3 million base, with an opportunity to make $2 million more if he covers 1,000 yards. The total value of the contract is $8.5 million.
“I think it would be awesome just to have him [Marshawn Lynch] around,” quarterback Derek Carr stated on NFL Network two weeks ago. Carr added, “He’s a great teammate, from everyone that I’ve talked to, from the couple of Seahawks that we’ve had on our team. They love him.”
