USA Hockey announces Men’s National Team for World Championship 2017

USA Hockey

USA Hockey has announced 15 players of the initial roster that will make up the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2017 International Ice Hockey Federation Men’s World Championship ‘pucking-off’ from May 5-21 in Cologne, Germany.

After the US women’s team won the IIHF Women’s World Championship 2017 (reportedly with lower wages and perks), it’s time for the men of this country to show their mettle.

The much-anticipated roster consists five players who helped Team USA in its journey to bronze medal at the 2015 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic; namely Connor Murphy (Arizona Coyotes), Anders Lee (New York Islanders), Brock Nelson (New York Islanders), Connor Hellebuyck (Winnipeg Jets), and Dylan Larkin (Detroit Red Wings).

Centerman J.T. Compher (Colorado Avalanche) and defenseman Murphy comes back to the U.S. Men’s National Team after they helped out last year’s squad, evidently, the youngest in the competition finish fourth in the world championship in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia.

Interestingly and to the advantage of experience, 13 of the 15 players named to the 2017 U.S. Men’s National Team have played for a U.S. National Team and have accounted for 22 medals in IIHF World Championship play.

This year’s roster currently consists of eight forwards, four defensemen, and three goaltenders.

Key members of the team:

Jeff Blashill (head coach Detroit Red Wings) will serve as the head coach of the 2017 U.S. Men’s National Team.

Let’s hope Blashill follow up legendary Herb Brooks mantra!

Assistant coaches- Jack Capuano who has spent more than seasons as the head coach of the New York Islanders from 2010-2017, Seth Appert ( 23 seasons as head coach of the Quinnipiac University men’s hockey team), and Rand Pecknold

The U.S. has ended up in the top four of the world championship in three of the last four occasions, a feat that has only been achieved once in American history (1931-34).
