Venus Williams gets knocked out in her first match since Australian Open final against younger sister Serena.

The world No. 11 American was crushed by the world No. 51 French Kristina Mladenovic in the St Petersburg Ladies Trophy in straight sets 6-3 6-1 at the Sibur Arena, Russia.

Venus Williams, who reached the Melbourne final beating six tennis hotshots, showed none of that vigor and eagerness to win the match against Mladenovic. Not even a single winner was achieved by Venus in the opening set as compared to the 15 by the 23-year-old Mladenovic.

Is this the aftermath of the Melbourne final loss against younger sister Serena?

Mladenovic got an early break in the first game of the second set and effortlessly cemented the second-round victory.

In the final eight, Mladenovic will face reigning St. Petersburg champion Roberta Vinci, who defeated Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 6-4.

Further, second seed of the tournament Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova dispatched Croatian Donna Vekic 6-2, 6-2 to book a quarterfinal berth.

Cibulkova will face fifth-seeded local Elena Vesnina, who knocked out France’s Alize Cornet 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinal.

Irrespective of the match, the Russians do know how to put up an extravaganza:
